We wanted to write a book that not only explains the reason for innovating innovation but also HOW to innovate innovation in your business. We wanted the book to be practical. We wanted it to be a book where you could scroll notes in the margins about what you were going to do differently to make innovation better in your organisation. We wanted to inspire people to experiment more with how and what they innovate.
We also wanted it to be easy to read, allowing readers to explore chapters of the book they were interested in rather than read the whole entore book if it wasn’t of interest to them.
We wanted it to be as real as possibile and we cite all our sources and also give plenty of our real life examples of projects and research from our professional lives. We also share some of our errors and what to learn from them.
We broke the book up into three sections to make it easier to understand:
Section 1: The Innovation Landscape
The first section outlines what the purpose of innovation is in modern Consumer Packaged Goods, the benefits of innovation both financially and non-financially; what the costs of innovation and why they are so high, and the return on investment (ROI); some of the reasons innovation has a 90% failure rate; and, finally, a discussion on why we, as an industry, have come to accept the long-held view that this is ok, without challenging our mindset.
Section 2: Agile Innovation: A different way
The second section develops the vision for Agile Innovation, outlining the model and methodology, and why Agile Innovation can drastically improve innovation, not only from a financial point of view but also from a cultural point of view. We start to look at how Agile Innovation can be introduced into an organisation.
Section 3: Applying Agile Innovation
The final section looks more in-depth at applying the Agile Innovation mindset into the organisation, outlining the necessary resources, processes, and targets to make innovation successful in an organisation. We discuss potential innovation teams’ structures and governance profiles.
